Atlantic Heart Sketch # 8

Well, this weeks challenge over at Altantic Heart Sketch Challenge certainly gave me pause to think. I wanted to stay true to the sketch as much as possible, yet do something different. My first instinct was to use the lovely zigzag paper from either the 'For Always' or the 'Claire' paper packs,  then  decided I did not want my design to be ready to use paper, but rather something created with paper. I turned to one of my favorite paper packs, Avonlea   ( I find myself saying that for all CTMH paper packs...lol).

My card is 5" x 7". I had no Avonlea Teal cardstock  left, so I used Twilight for the first layer, cut at 6 7/8" x 4 7/8". The second  layer is colonial white, cut to 6 3/4" x 4 3/4" .  The next layer is colonial white as well, cut at 6 5/8"x 4 5/8". I used this as a base to adhere my design to. Taking four different colors from the Avonlea paper pack, I cut 9 strips of paper 4 5/8" x 1 1/2" .
8 strips were then punched with a border punch from EK for Your Creative Life. I began at the bottom of   my base card stock, placing the unpunched strip on first, then layering each punched strip to overlap the previous strip. There was some excess at the top when I was finished, so I just cut it off.

The flower was cut from the Art Philosophy cart.(circle # 3). I cut 3 of them at 3" and 1 at 2". Each petal was cut  towards the middle to about 1/2 in. They were then inked with Twilight. The petals on the bottom layer were curled down, and the other three layers were curled up, using a quilling tool (or pen ,pencil, etc). The center was made using a piece of Twilight card stock cut at 4" x 1/2".Using a small sharp pair of scissors, I snipped cuts all along as close to each other as possible to with in an 1/8" of  the bottom. Then using the quilling tool, I rolled it tight and glued it together with a small glue dot. I then glued it to the inside of the flower with a large glue dot and fanned the little strips with my fingers.

I don't normally pencil mark where to cut to. I usually just eyeball it, but wanted to give you a visual of what I was doing.
The sentiment, from  the WOTG Avonlea Cardmaking Kit (Autumn/Winter 2012), was stamped using Twilight ,on a diecut  shape from Spellbinders called Resplendant Rectangles.

My ribbon trim is Colonial white gros grain ribbon I got from CTMH over two years ago, and  I still have some left!! The bling  is gems I purchased so long ago, I cannot remember where I picked them up..........lol.
Hope you like my take on this weeks sketch, have an awesome week, and don't forget to make good use of all you little bits and pieces.
